I read this beautiful story and knew I had to share, because it illustrates the amazing bond between people and their pets, and more than that, it illustrates the reason that we, APAW, are here today.
The photo below is of John Unger and 19 year old Schoep, who suffers from severe arthritis. Unger takes Schoep to Lake Superior and “floats” him, using this simple form of water therapy to alleviate his pain.

In the article, Unger credits Schoep with helping him through some extremely challenging times, which I’m sure many of you can relate to. It’s heartwarming to see dog and owner giving everything they can to each other.
The best part? Since the photo was published, Unger has received donations from people from all over the world to assist with Schoep’s medical bills. This demonstrates our ability, as a nation, to stand up for our right to provide health care to our pets. We owe that to ourselves, and we owe it to them.
