SUPPORT THE FAIRNESS TO PET OWNERS ACT
TELL CONGRESS TO GIVE PET OWNERS ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE PET MEDICATIONS
Why is a Federal Law the Solution
Federal Problems Require Federal Solutions
Federal Government grants veterinarians the exclusive power to prescribe pet medications.
Many manufacturers sell only to veterinarians and often refuse to sell to certified pharmacies. Those same manufacturers may sell many of the same medications at a lower cost to human pharmacies (often in generic forms), which receive prescriptions from human physicians.
As the person who prescribes the medications AND the person who also sells the medication, there is an inherent conflict of interest.
The result limits competition and increases prices for pet medications for pet owners.
Pet owners need the federal government to protect their right to automatically receive a copy of their pet’s prescriptions so they can choose where to purchase their pet’s medications and aren’t forced to purchase solely from their veterinarian.
The fairness to pet owners act (FTPOA) is a congressional bill that will benefit pet owners by giving them access to affordable medication for their pets. If passed, pet owners will be allowed to choose where to fill their pet’s prescription, just like humans do for their prescriptions.
